Happy 10th Birthday

July 7, 2015

Dear Cocoa,

Today you would have been 10 years old.  We would have had a party for you with goofy hats and dog cake on paper plates and presents  and salmon skin.  Instead, I am missing you more than ever.

I know things at the Rainbow Bridge must be beautiful – with lots of bunnies and deer to chase and snow and  pizza crust too, but I miss you.  I still miss your adoring eyes when I come home, and I miss our walks through the south woods and Meadow Estates.

Next week I am getting a new puppy. I wish you could have been here to help me train him – to show him where to pee and how to act around children and cats. All I can hope for is that he will smell you on your toys and bowls and beds and learn to be as gentle and accepting as you were.

I am trying to keep our paths and trails clear, but it is no fun walking without you. Last weekend was the Fourth of July and there were morons in Meadow Estates setting off so-called  legal fireworks for three days.  And there has been a lot of thunder.  Each time I hear it I think of you, but then I remember that it doesn’t bother you anymore.

The new puppy will be called Toto Too because   he is coming from “over the rainbow.” Part of that is to honor you.  I will remember that after the awful thunder ends, there can be a beautiful rainbow and that will remind me of you.

I will always love you,

Big Bitch
